Cleaning drive at Smit
SHILLONG, Nov 25: As part of the celebration of the Azadi Amrit Ka Mahotsav to commemorate 75th Year of India’s Independence, and the 50th statehood day celebration, the NSS Unit, Shillong College, conducted a cleaning drive and awareness programme at Smit, which is one of the adopted villages of the NSS unit, on Thursday.The cleaning drive was carried out in the entire stretch from the market area to the adjoining areas of Iing Sad, in which village volunteers and youth representatives partook enthusiastically in the event. The awareness programme on ‘Importance of Oral Health’ was held at Smit Higher Secondary School & College. The two programmes were attended by a total of 35 NSS volunteers, four programme officers, 49 village representatives of seven members from each locality and about 20 students and teachers of Smit Higher Secondary School & College.
Training on integrated farming
SHILLONG, Nov 25: A three-day training-cum-exposure visit on integrated farming system was organised by the Division of Technology Assessment-cum-Capacity Building, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, from November 23 to 25. The training, organized in collaboration with NABARD, South Garo Hills, Meghalaya, aimed to acquaint and educate the farmers about the different components of the Integrated farming System (IFS) models and its prospects in doubling the farmer’s income. A total of 23 women farmers from South Garo Hills participated in the training. Division of Animal and Fisheries Science in collaboration with KVK, Ri Bhoi, also organised a national campaign on ‘Antimicrobial Resistance in Fish’, which was participated by 22 farmers from different parts of Ri Bhoi.
Call for mass teachers’ meet
SHILLONG, Nov 25: The Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers’ Association-Garo Hills Region has called a mass teacher meeting at Asanang in West Garo Hills on December 3 to take future course of action with regard to the fate of upper primary ad hoc school teachers. Expressing discontent, the association has alleged government insensitivity towards the ad hoc teachers. “It is clear that there will be no space for improvement or any other implementation for ad hoc teachers. The present ruling dispensation is found to be disinterested in the progress of ad hoc upper primary school teachers of the state,” it added.
