Shuttler Sindhu cruises into Indonesia Open quarterfinals
Bali, Nov 25: Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu registered a comfortable straight-game win over Germany’s Yvonne Li to cruise into the women’s singles quarterfinals of the Indonesia Open Super 1000 event here on Thursday. The reigning world champion, seeded third here, hardly broke a sweat to win the second round clash 21-12 21-18 against the world No.26 in 37 minutes at the USD 850,000 event. Sindhu will take on the winner of the second round clash between Spaniard Beatriz Corrales and South Korea’s Sim Yujin in the quarterfinals. (PTI)
Sathiyan enters round of 32 at World TT C’ships
Houston, Nov 25: India’s G Sathiyan progressed to the men’s singles third round at the World Table Tennis Championships with a 4-0 win over Russia’s Vladimir Sidorenko here. The world number 37 from India won 11-9, 11-9, 11-8, 11-6 in the round of 64. Sathiyan next faces world number 17 Aruna Quadri of Nigeria in the round of 32. India’s Sharath Kamal, who lost in the first round, can still make an impact in the men’s doubles alongside Sathiyan and in mixed doubles alongside Archana Kamath. Sharath and Archana entered the round of 32 with a 3-0 win over Algeria’s Sami Kherouf and Katia Kessaci. Sathiyan and Manika Batra got a first round bye and play their round of 32 mixed doubles match against Puerto Rico’s Adriana Diaz and Brian Afanador. (PTI)
Rangnick in talks with Man Utd over manager’s place
MANCHESTER, Nov 25: Manchester United is in talks with Ralf Rangnick about becoming interim manager, a person with knowledge of the situation said Thursday. No final agreement has been reached yet but talks are ongoing with the former Leipzig coach who is head of sports and development at Lokomotiv Moscow, the person told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss ongoing talks.
