SHILLONG, Nov 30: The Urban Affairs department has identified three locations and is on the “right track” to develop one out of the three into a new landfill.
“We are on the right track to finalise on the new landfill site. The Deputy Commissioners have almost completed the process. We have already identified two to three places,” Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar told reporters here on Tuesday.
The state government will soon finalise the location, said Dhar, while adding that it will be difficult to provide a timeline. “But we will complete the exercise since we understand this is a matter of urgent public importance,” he, however, added.
The Urban Affairs minister had earlier assured that the new landfill site would not become another Marten.
