SHILLONG, Dec 1: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has informed the Meghalaya High Court that a bailey bridge is in place for the nonce as a substitute for the old RCC bridge which had collapsed, whilst a proposal has been sent for the construction of a permanent bridge on the Shillong Bypass.
In a reply to a PIL filed by Meghalaya High Court Bar Association on Wednesday, it was also submitted on behalf of the NHAI that the proposal for the construction of the same may be green-lighted, with or without any modification, by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, a division bench of the Meghalaya High Court, who was hearing the plea, has also asked the state government to file a status report on the progress of the two-laning of the Western Shillong Bypass and upgrade of the Shillong-Diengpasoh Road.
