SHILLONG, Dec 16: The Mawsynram Block Congress Committee (MBCC) has flayed local MLA HM Shangpliang for being an acolyte of Mukul Sangma, and betraying the party and the people for All India Trinamool Congress (AITC).
“The people of Mawsynram had elected Shangpliang thinking that he is a leader but sadly, he turns out to be a follower of someone. He, however, needs to understand that the supporters of Congress party are not the followers of Dr Mukul. We will support the candidate of the Congress in the 2023 Assembly polls,” Committee vice president, Maxwell Lyngkhoi, said while addressing a meeting of the party supporters at Mawsynram on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Committee working president, PN Syiem, informed that they have appointed GS Hynniewta as the ad hoc president of MBCC despite an attempt by Shangpliang on December 8 to wind up the party in Mawsynram constituency. “How can he claim to wind up the party when we had already appointed the ad hoc president? Actually, Shangpliang is no longer authorised to convene the meeting since he is no longer the president of the MBCC,” Syiem said.
According to him, only few leaders have followed Shangpliang and not all the party supporters.
MPCC working president, Ampareen Lyngdoh, on the other hand, has said that the NPP-led MDA Government has subjected the citizens of the state, especially the economically weaker sections of the society, to inflation. “There has been no good governance under the incumbent government in these past four years. We have seen the incapability of the present government during these hard times in view of the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.
It may be mentioned that the meeting was also attended by the members of the MBCC, Mawsynram Mahila Congress Committee and Mawsynram Assembly Unit Congress Committee.
