SHILLONG, Dec 18: Former football star Eugeneson Lyngdoh, who was recently elected Member of the Legislative Assembly for Mawphlang constituency, has been voted as the new president of the Shillong Sports Association (SSA).
The decision was taken during the special annual general meeting of the association. Lyngdoh was elected as the president and now takes over his late father SK Sunn, who earlier served in the position.
Speaking on the development, the 35-year old former international footballer, who has represented India and some of the country’s most prominent clubs, expressed delight over the decision.
He added that since his newly-assigned designation is related to sports, it is something that he looks forward to.
He further reminisced on his younger years as an upcoming footballer, saying he has fond memories of the association and that the SSA has helped develop a lot of local footballers.
The newly-elected SSA president credited the association for providing him a platform to reach the level he has attained and promised to take the association to greater heights by first focusing on transforming the SSA’s ground to a proper playing pitch.
