SHILLONG, Dec 22: Following a lot of hue and cry over the alleged shoddy implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Meghalaya, PHE Minister Renikton L Tongkhar will discuss the issue with the State BJP after the New Year celebrations.
State BJP president, Ernest Mawrie on Wednesday said that they had met the minister during the all-party meeting and both parties have agreed to sit across the table to discuss the anomalies raised by the party after New Year.
The State BJP has raised questions over the implementation of the JJM in the state, accusing the department of sub-par quality of pipes and not actually providing connection to all the beneficiaries.
The State BJP has compiled a report based on complaints made at the grassroots level and has forwarded it to the Centre.
Recently, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) unearthed alleged irregularities in the implementation of JJM in Ri Bhoi and petitioned Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner, RM Kurbah to institute a magisterial probe.
Asked if the State BJP supports the demand of the KSU for a magisterial probe, Mawrie said, “Let us meet first then we will know.”
