SHILLONG, Dec 26: All India Trinamool Congress – Meghalaya president, Charles Pyngrope on Sunday asserted that there was nothing new in the announcement by the Congress Legislature party that it would provide issue-based support to the NPP-led MDA government.
“We had already supported the government on many issues inside the Assembly. All the 60 MLAs had supported the resolution on the implementation of Inner Line Permit. My only question is whether the statement by the Congress was necessary in the first place?” the former Congress leader told reporters.
He also pointed out that many have misconstrued the statement by CLP leader, Ampareen Lyngdoh and said that the Congress is working with the BJP in Meghalaya.
Referring to a tweet by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the AITC-M leader said the former had tweeted that Congress and BJP were part of the same govt in Meghalaya.
“I hope that the Congress ideology will remain secular and anti-BJP,” Pyngrope said while making it clear that there was nothing wrong if an opposition party decided to support the government on issues concerning the state and the people.
AITC-Meghalaya parliamentary party chief, Mukul Sangma had earlier said Congress in Meghalaya is in complete disarray and shows desperation to remain in power in the state.
“It is a reflection of the fact that the Congress in the state of Meghalaya is in complete disarray, they are victim full of confusion,” Sangma had said.
The former CLP leader criticised the party’s decision to support the National People’s Party (NPP) which leads the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, and urged the Congress MLAs and leaders in the state to join the Trinamool.
“That is the reason why I have said that instead of remaining in Indian National Congress, if they have the resolve to serve the people and the state; it is time for them to join Trinamool Congress. It is the only platform where they can do justice to the responsibilities vested upon them,” Sangma said.
