BRO urged to share expertise
New Delhi, Dec 27: Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar on Monday suggested the Border Roads Organisation to share its expertise regarding construction in the high-altitude areas with friendly countries. Kumar also commended the BRO for its efforts to increase the participation of women and appointing them as officers commanding of road construction companies along the border areas. Kumar was speaking at Annual Chief Engineers and Equipment Management Conference here. Urging the BRO to carry forward their vision, Kumar suggested them to expedite the work towards sharing their expertise of construction on high-altitude areas with friendly foreign countries, the statement noted. “He called upon them to use the international seminar, being planned on the sidelines of DefExpo-2022, to showcase their capabilities to the international audience,” it mentioned. PM lays base for projects
Mandi, Dec 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday attended the ground breaking ceremony for 287 investment projects worth over Rs 28,197 crores in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi to mark the fourth anniversary of the Jai Ram Thakur-led BJP government in the state. The prime minister is also expected to address a rally at the Paddal ground in Mandi, the home district of Chief Minister Thakur. Earlier, Modi, accompanied by Union minister Anurag Thakur, visited an exhibition put up by various departments of the state government. A Global Investors’ Meet was held in Dharamsala on November 7-8, 2019. The first ground breaking ceremony of projects worth over Rs 13,656 crores to turn these proposals into reality was held in Shimla on December 27 the same year in the presence on Union Home Minister Amit Shah. 5 killed in bus accident
Ambala, Dec 27: Five people were killed on Ambala-Chandigarh national highway near here on Monday morning when a Delhi-bound private luxury bus rammed into two other tourist buses which were parked on the roadside, police said. Twelve passengers sustained injuries in the accident and they were admitted in Civil Hospital in Ambala city.Police said that it seems the bus coming from the Jammu side rammed into the parked buses after it tried to overtake some vehicle going towards Delhi. The driver of the offending bus, which was on its way from Jammu to Delhi, fled from the site, the police said, adding a case has been registered against the unknown driver. (PTI)
IAF chief visits South Korea
New Delhi, Dec 27: Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari on Monday began a four-day visit to the Republic of Korea with an aim to further bolster bilateral military ties.The Indian Air Force said the Air Chief Marshal will meet the top military brass of that country besides visiting important defence establishments. Earlier this month, India and the Republic of Korea agreed to strengthen strategic cooperation including in dealing with challenges of terrorism, extremism and radicalisation. South Korea has been a major supplier of weapons and military equipment to India. (PTI)
