SHILLONG, Dec 30: The Meghalaya SSA Schools’ Association (MSSASA) on Thursday petitioned the Director of School Literacy Education, Ambrose Ch Marak seeking release of additional funds from the state budget for payment of salary to the aggrieved teachers.
In a letter addressed to Marak via email, MSSASA president, Aristotle C Rymbai said they were writing to him to bring to his notice that the fund released by the state government for payment of salary for the months of August and September will only provide temporary relief to the SSA teachers.
“But this two months’ salary will not solve the problems of the SSA teachers. We demand release of all our pending dues till December 2021,” Rymbai said.
He said the teachers are protesting against the state government for failing to release additional funds amounting to Rs 104 crore lying with it for the last three years as per the capping norms of Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan under which 10% of the salary component has to be borne by the state government.
MSSASA also asserted that their non-cooperation movement against all government programmes and activities and the letter campaign to the Chief Minister and Education Minister will continue as announced earlier. The SSA teachers will follow up with a peaceful and democratic black flag & sit-in protest and a candlelight vigil on January 21, 2022.
