SHILLONG, Jan 2: NPP state president and Rajya Sabha member, WR Kharlukhi was all praise for the MLAs, stating that Meghalaya has the best legislators. In 50 years of statehood, there was not a single day when the Assembly session was marred by disruption, he said.
“The thing is that the Opposition, whichever it was, had walked out of the House but every other day was spent on discussions about the state and the people,” he said.
“They may shout but they never disrupt the proceedings. I am proud of the Assembly although, unfortunately, I could not enter it,” he said.
He continued: “I am thankful to the Rajya Sabha chairman for giving me four chances to raise the issue of the inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. However, even before I could raise the issue, the Opposition members would rush to the well and that disrupted everything.”
But this is not the case in Meghalaya, Kharlukhi said, adding “That’s why I say with pride that we have the best legislators.”
He said he will continue to raise the language issue once the session begins.
