TURA, Jan 14: The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) has threatened to stage a mass hunger strike, defying COVID-19 restrictions put in place, lest the government continues to disregard its demands for the release of pending salaries.
The SSA teachers, who are yet to receive their salaries for the months of October, November and December from last year, have been repeatedly agitating in a bid to persuade the government to comply with their demands.
“We are paralysed and cannot afford our children’s school dues like admission fees, monthly fees, school bus fare besides others. We were promised that the pending salaries would be released last year itself, which did not happen. We cannot go on with our duties without our salaries, and demand its immediate release,” the Association said.
The teachers have claimed that it is the state government which is not releasing the salaries despite the Centre already sanctioning the pending amount in full to the state government.
