SHILLONG, Jan 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be unable to attend the golden jubilee celebration of Meghalaya slated for January 21, but it is expected that he will convey a message to the state as well its people which will be telecast during the celebration.
State officials, on Saturday, confirmed that the Prime Minister will skip the celebrations and only share a message, which will be screened during the function at JN Sports Complex, Polo. Notably, the state government had curtailed the celebrations in view of the sudden spurt of COVID-19 cases.
“Once the COVID-19 situation eases, we will definitely have many more programmes,” officials said.
Different parts of the state including Police Bazar and Tura town among others places will be illuminated on the occasion.
It may also be recalled that the government had decided not to go ahead with the inauguration of 50 new projects to mark the 50 years of Meghalaya’s statehood on January 21 due to the current prevailing situation.
It is said that the participants of the celebration will be adhering to the protocols of having only 30% attendance during the event.
