Tura, Jan 15: In what will come as a welcome move for the people of Tura, West Garo Hills Police has announced that as part of the beautification of the district, all abandoned vehicles lying on the roads of the town will be removed.
The decision by the West Garo Hills Police comes in a bid to address the issue of traffic snarls in the town.
“The vehicle owners are requested not to park their vehicles randomly on the road as it creates huge traffic congestion and is a major security concern in the run-up to Republic Day and Meghalaya Day celebrations,” a post from West Garo Hills Police’s social media handle read.
Photographs of some of the vehicles that were removed from the road side were uploaded with the owners being asked to approach the Tura traffic branch to retake the possession of their vehicles after the completion of the due process of the law.
Another observation made was that some garage owners were repairing vehicles on the main road, thereby causing inconvenience to people.
“In future, we will be regulating such activities strictly and criminal proceedings will be initiated against the defaulters,” warned the WGH Police, while seeking support from all concerned in its efforts to ease the traffic congestion in the town.
