Bridge on NH-6 in EJH suffers damage

JOWAI, Jan 16: A bridge at Sunapyrdi (Sunapur) in East Jaintia Hills along the National Highway-6, locally known as jingkein Umpasu next to the Luk ha (Lubha) main bridge, has reportedly suffered damage.
Locals have sought the immediate action of East Jaintia Hills district administration in regard with the repair work and to restrict the load capacity of trucks.
The KSU Narpuh Circle from Sunapyrdi village has also demanded immediate repair of the bridge.
“If the bridge collapses, it will disconnect the route link between Tripura, Barak Valley and Mizoram with mainland India and will disconnect Sunapyrdi and other villages till Ratacherra,” the KSU said.
Hundreds of overloaded trucks transporting limestone from Lumshnong area to Barak Valley in Assam have reportedly been seen plying every day.
The In-charge Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills, SS Syiemlieh said that  Section 144 CrPC has been imposed to regulate movement of vehicle and police personnel have been deployed to control the traffic. The DC in-charge also informed that a meeting will be held with the National Highway Authority of India for immediate repair of the bridge.
