government.
Pala made the statement after meeting Block Congress Committee (BCC) members in the constituencies of Kharkutta, Mendipathar and Resubelpara in North Garo Hills on Monday.
“We are very strong in the Khasi-Jaintia region and after coming here and seeing the reception to the party and its leaders, I am confident that we will win the mandate in 2023,” Pala said.
The meetings held on Monday are part of a three-day tour of the region being undertaken by the MPCC chief in an effort to instill confidence within the party and its membership which had taken a hit after the exodus of former CM, Mukul Sangma along with a host of sitting MLAs and party leaders.
“As you are aware, after Mukul Sangma left, there was a big challenge in Garo Hills. I am happy to see that the leaders have gone but the workers are still intact and new people have also joined. I haven’t lost hope and am confident that in the coming elections, we will win these seats,” Pala added.
Pala was accompanied by former MLAs, Deborah Marak, OK Sangma, Billykid Sangma and Brigady Marak. State secretary for the Congress, Grethalson Arengh was also in attendance along with youth leaders, Wilness Marak and Roger Benny Sangma.
The Congress, as per Pala, would not get into a tuck with any other parties but would fight the elections on their own in all 60 seats in the state. The meetings were also to ensure that the Block Levels of the Congress party was functioning normally.
The MPCC president will continue to tour the districts of East and South Garo Hills in the next two days with the same agenda of bolstering the party at the grassroots.
