Police sounds alert against fraudsters in WGH

TURA, Jan 18: An alert has been sounded by police in West Garo Hills about fraudsters sending fake WhatApp text messages to citizens in an attempt to dupe them off their money and people have been urged to be wary.

According to police, the fraudsters pretending to be the Deputy Commissioner or the Superintendent of Police send text messages to unsuspecting citizens from mobile number-8420621299 with a request to purchase Amazon Gift Cards on one pretext or the other and assuring that the amount would be reimbursed. The fraudsters then, asks the victim to send it on his behalf claiming that he is busy in a meeting.

A screenshot of WhatApp messages with such attempts to dupe people has also been uploaded in the FB page of the West Garo Hills Police to warn people against the crime.

“Please stay alert and don’t fall in this trap,” the police alert cautioned while urging people to circulate the posts to make others aware.

Police also informed that legal action is being taken against fraudsters.
