Tyisam Fest kicks off in Baghmara

Tura, Jan 19: The annual Tyisam Festival which was put off for several years due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation kicked off on Wednesday at Baghmara in South Garo Hills and the opening function was inaugurated by Rongara Siju MLA Rakkam A Sangma. The three day winter festival is being held at Golden Beach on the banks of the Simsang River.

 

Speaking during the inauguration, Rakkam while highlighting the various developmental activities being implemented by the MDA Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, assured that the District can expect to see changes in terms of development in the future. Encouraging the local entrepreneurs and farmers to utilize their skills and talents, he said that the opportunity is being open to them which will give them economic enhancement in their near future.

 

The Local MLA also expressed his gratitude towards the District Administration for organizing the three day event against all odds, stating that the celebration of Tyisam Festival and its culmination on Meghalaya’s 50 years statehood day is perhaps the biggest celebration in the entire state of Meghalaya.

 

In order to provide an outlet and exposure to the local industries and entrepreneurs, the District Expo 2022 was also inaugurated side by side at the same venue. Other attractions of the festival include, ‘Musical Night’ where famous bands from the entire Garo Hills will enthral the public every evening.

 

Water sports and other indigenous games, singing, dancing, Cooking, Skit Competition, Fancy dress competition, Flower, Vegetable and Fruit Show, Baby Show  and other cultural bonanza will takes place during the three day event.

 

Other attractions of the festival include, photo exhibition presented by the department of Information and Public Relations, showcasing pictures of Meghalaya State before and after statehood and a Video show on Meghalaya Flashback from 50 years.

 

The three day long cultural extravaganza will culminate in a grand Golden jubilee celebration of Meghalaya Statehood on 21st January 2022.
