SHILLONG, Jan 19: The XI rallied to their third straight title win after a 4-wicket win over Shillong Sixers in the 9th Ardhendu Chaudhuri Memorial Invitational Tennis Ball Day & Night Cricket Tournament organised by the Rilbong Sports & Cultural Club, here on Wednesday.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Shillong Sixers posted a competitive total of 50 runs in 8 overs.
Needing close to 6.5 runs an over to win, The XI got off to a solid start scoring 22/1 in the first 2 overs. But with some tight bowling in the middle overs, the Sixers slowed down their run rate. However, The XI were able to pick up pace again before scoring 56 in 7.1 overs with 4 wickets remaining.
Swarajeet Das was adjudged Player-of-the-Match for his contribution of 9 runs and 2 wickets and received a cash prize of Rs 1000.
Along with the winning trophy, The XI also received a cash prize of Rs 18,000 while Shillong Sixers received the runners-up trophy along with Rs 12,000.
Prizes were also handed to players and teams for various achievements during the course of the tournament.
Krishna Chettri was the highest run-scorer of the tournament with 94 runs from 4 matches while Deepak Thapa was named the highest wicket-taker, with 8 wickets in 4 matches.
Blaze SC was declared the most Disciplined Team.
Rilbong Sports & Cultural Club made a donation of Rs 4000 toward AAHAR, an initiative of Ardhendu Chaudhuri Charitable Trust and the Ganesh Mandir at Rilbong Ground. Further, The XI also did their bit by donating Rs 1000 toward AAHAR.
