James inaugurates Paediatric Intensive Care Unit in Ganesh Das hospital

Shillong, Feb 01: Health Minister, James PK Sangma on Tuesday inaugurated the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Ganesh Das Government MCH Hospital, Shillong.

While addressing the gathering after inaugurating the PICU, Sangma said that more than 30 cases in the hospital are paediatric related.

According to him, this facility is very much needed in this hospital to cater to critical paediatric cases.

He said that he is very happy to dedicate this important project to the people of the State as part of the celebration of 50 year’s of Meghalaya statehood.

DHS (MI), Dr Aman Warr termed the inauguration of the PICU as a red letter day since the hospital was lacking this health care facility.

According to him, this will go a long way to provide better health care service to the paediatric and children.

Senior Paediatric specialist of the hospital, Dr T. Pde while delivering her keynote address said that the need of PICU was necessary especially with the anticipation that children will be affected by the new wave of Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Dr. Pde, the setting up pf PICU at the hospital began in June 2021.

Principal Secretary of Health department, Sampath Kumar said that this is the first PICU in the government run institutions adding that another eight similar facilities will coming up in other government health centres across the State.

According to him, the setting up of this facility in this hospital is all the more important since 15 percent of the institutional deliveries in a calendar year take place here.
