Eastern Command gets new GOC-in-Chief

SHILLONG, Feb 1: The prestigious Eastern Command on Tuesday welcomed Lt Gen RP Kalita, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM as its new General Officer Commanding-in-Chief.
The Lieutenant General assumed his office after paying homage to the martyrs at Vijay Smarak followed by guard of honour at Garrison Battalion Parade Ground.
Prior to this, Kalita served as the Director General Manpower Planning and Personnel Services in IHQ of MoD (Army) in New Delhi.
Noted for his industrious contribution and operational experience in Sri Lanka, Jammu & Kashmir and Northeast, Kalita was also commissioned into 9 KUMAON in 1984.
Notably, he further commanded a Rashtriya Rifles Battalion in Kashmir, a Mountain Brigade and an Infantry Division actively committed in Counter Insurgency Operations in Jammu & Kashmir and strategically important Corps in North East.
