TURA, Feb 4: Amidst the current crisis in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), the National People’s Party-led Executive Committee announced four months of salaries to the employees.
In an order dated Wednesday, a day after Rakesh Sangma took over as the Chief Executive Member, the joint secretary of the GHADC announced release of the salaries for the months of October 2019 to January 2020.
The council had directed all the concerned departments, branches and sections to prepare the bill and submit the same to the Finance department at the earliest.
It may be reminded that the backlog of salaries was over 32 months when the NPP-led EC took over the GHADC about a year ago. In spite of the latest announcement of release of four months of salaries, the GHADC still owes 24 months of salaries to its employees.
Two-day NCM ends
on peaceful note
The two-day non cooperation movement announced by various organisations passed off peacefully with no untoward incident reported from any of the five districts that make up Garo Hills. Most districts reported normal functioning of government offices.
Various NGOs including the GSU, FKJGP, ADE, AYWO, FAF, NTDF, TSCF, GGU, NESO and NGEA had called for a two-day NCM seeking the ouster of newly-appointed CEM, Rakesh Sangma over his mixed heritage.
While government offices showed vastly improved numbers in attendance, business and office establishments remained shut throughout the time of the NCM call.
With Garo Hills suffering a bout of very severe cold weather, most preferred to stay put at home to keep warm. Vehicle movements on both days were not obstructed by any of the civil organisations that had called the NCM.
