Govt mum on pressure group’s complicity in IED blast

SHILLONG, Feb 4: The state government refused to comment on reports from intelligence sources that the name of a pressure group has emerged during the course of investigation into the IED blast at Police Bazar on Sunday.
“Let the law take its own course. Let the Police department take all the necessary steps,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said on Friday.
“From the government side we really do not want to see such blasts again,” he added, refusing to comment any further.
It is worth mentioning that intelligence sources on Thursday revealed that during the interrogation of three persons who were arrested in connection with the case, the name of a prominent pressure group has emerged for possible complicity with subversive activities.
It was also informed that the three had gone and collected the detonators for the IED from a unit of the pressure group from Nongkya village in Umsning Block under Ri-Bhoi District.
