SHILLONG, Feb 4: State BJP president Ernest Mawrie has expressed concern over the slow progress of the inquiry commissions set up to probe various alleged scams and incidents.
“We are concerned over the delay in the probes and I have prepared a list of agenda to be discussed with the Chief Minister once he returns after completing his campaign in other states,” he said.
The probes into the power and rice scams have been moving at a snail’s pace. Ditto with the judicial inquiry into the death of former HNLC leader, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew.
Mawrie said these inquiries should the fast-tracked in keeping with a request by the presidents of different political parties to the CM.
He also said the BJP would facilitate peace talks with Union Home Minister Amit Shah if the HNLC comes forward for discussions and refrains from carrying out any illegal activities.
Condemning the recent blast at Police Bazar, Mawrie said maintaining peace and tranquillity in the state was of utmost importance.
He trashed allegations that he went quiet on corruption issues after getting the plum post of Advisor to the Chief Minister.
“These are mere allegations. I am very serious about corruption and have always spoken against it in the district councils,” he said.
Denying any infighting in the party, the state BJP chief said the dissident leaders should approach him instead of going to the media if they have any issues.
“I welcome them to come to me and tell me what wrong I have done,” he said, adding there were no complaints against him during the meeting of the state BJP office-bearers.
Referring to Bashailang Khongwir’s recent statement, Mawrie said it was his personal opinion and not of the party.
The state BJP president said Law and Justice Minister, Kiren Rijiju would visit Shillong on Saturday to meet the party leaders, including district presidents to explain the Union Budget tabled on February 1.
