SHILLONG, Feb 11: Producer groups, village organisations and self-help groups (SHGs) iny South Garo Hills on Friday received monetary aid from the state government.
According to a statement, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who was part of programme at Chokpot, South Garo Hills, distributed cheques worth Rs.1.2 crore among 170 producer groups to upscale their farming and entrepreneurial activities.
Conrad also extended financial assistance worth Rs 1.001 crore to 29 village organisations and SHGs during the same day.
Addressing the gathering, the chief minister also informed that over Rs 100 crore has been sanctioned for various infrastructural projects in Chokpot area, some of which include Chokpot Water Supply, Guest House, new Civil Sub Division building, et al.
Informing the gathering about FOCUS, the chief minister said that over 4.5 lakh farmers in Meghalaya will benefit out of the state government’s welfare programme.According to the statement, an estimated Rs 200 crore has been earmarked for this inclusive farmers’ programme.
The chief minister also said that the government is happy to support the women-led SHG movement “which is empowering enterprising women at the grassroots level”.
He also urged the public to take advantage of the welfare initiatives launched by the government.
