SHILLONG, Feb 11: The three-man inquiry commission headed by retired judge of Allahabad High Court, RN Mishra, which is probing the allegations of corruption in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) and the Power department, is unlikely to seek any further extension from the government.
A source said the commission is perusing the documents submitted by the MeECL and is likely to record the statement of witnesses.
The commission had held a meeting with officials of the MeECL and its three subsidiaries – Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Ltd (MePGCL), Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (MePTCL) and Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (MePDCL) – in December last year and had sought information on the Leshka Hydroelectric Power Project, the new billing software, procurement of more than one lakh meters for service connection, one time settlement schemes, Chinese meters provided by ADB industrial tariff, the e-tendering process and non completion of electrification of villages by turnkey contractors, among others.
On January 4, the state government had given a three-month extension to the commission to complete the probe.
