SHILLONG, Feb 11: The HSPDP is confident that the recent political development involving the Congress MLAs’ entry into the NPP-led MDA coalition is the end of the grand old party in Meghalaya and the beginning of an era where the regional fronts will come forward and lead the government.
“The Congress is on the verge of extinction, at least in Meghalaya, and it is a good sign for the regional parties to rebuild their position,” HSPDP president KP Pangniang said on Friday.
“We have BJP in the coalition and also in the Centre but the party will not be able to strengthen itself in Meghalaya and now it is upto the people of the state to give us a chance,” he added.
Asked if any consultation was held among the MDA partners before the Congress’ entry, he said, “The need for consultation does not arise. Since the day we formed the MDA government we had kept our doors open for all parties to work together for the state and the people.”
