SHILLONG, Feb 12: All India Trinamool Congress leader Mukul M. Sangma on Saturday ridiculed Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma for branding the rightful dues to be paid to the people as ‘gifts’.
The AITC leader was reacting to the CM’s statement that a solution to the vexed border dispute between Meghalaya and Assam would be a golden jubilee gift to the state.
“The CM had in 2020 said the arrears of government employees would be given as a Christmas gift. When did hard-earned money due to the people become a gift?” he said, pointing out that the government didn’t even fulfil the obligation of paying.
“Not paying someone’s due is criminal. They (MDA) never keep their word, as was the case with the promise to pay 30% arrears to the employees after a salary revision,” he said.
The AITC leader said the government has been making tall claims although nothing is seen on the ground. “Whatever development programmes you see today were undertaken by the previous government,” he added.
