SHILLONG, Feb 12: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) strongly opposed any move to introduce railways in the state in the absence of a comprehensive mechanism to check influx.
Cabinet Minister and PDF leader, Hamlet Dohling on Saturday said that as of now the party opposes railway head in Meghalaya be it the goods train or the passengers train until and unless there is a comprehensive mechanism to check influx.
“How can we allow railways without any mechanism to prevent entry of people from outside into the state,” he said while stressing on the need to have a strong mechanism like the Inner Line Permit in the state.
“Once the Centre gives us ILP, we will sit and discuss,” he said. The PDF on Saturday also elected the new office bearers of the central youth wing of the party during the triennial conference of the party and held discussions on ways to strengthen the youth wing of the party.
