SHILLONG, Feb 12: Opposition Leader Dr Mukul Sangma said that the demand for a renewed reservation policy in the state is bound to happen as the state government has failed to create opportunities. Speaking to The Shillong Times here on Saturday, Mukul Sangma said that reservation gives people security. The failure of the government to create opportunities has led to the demand for a renewed State Reservation Policy, he added.
Earlier, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had said that the youth of the Northeast, especially the tribal should come out beyond the reservation mind-set to compete with the rest of the world.
It may be mentioned that an agriculture student Barry Pyngrope had organised a signature campaign to pressurise the state government to review the State Reservation Policy to ensure equal distribution among the three tribes – Khasi, Jaintia and Garo in the state.
