TURA, Feb 12: In a bid to extend COVID-19 vaccination services to the marginalised communities from hard-to-reach areas of the state, chief minister, Conrad K Sangma on Saturday flagged off the six specialized mobile vaccination units here at Tura Civil Hospital.
The six mobile vaccinations units have been launched in partnership with the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
The units, which will be accompanied by a team of doctors and nurses, will counsel the communities on the benefits of vaccination, address potential concerns, and administer vaccines at their doorstep.
With further increase in vaccine eligibility, these units also plan to visit areas close to schools and colleges while delivering precautionary doses to frontline health workers and patients above the age of 60 with co-morbidities.
Notably, the six mobile vaccinationyunits will work in collaboration with national organisations like GiveIndia, Crypto Relief, USAID, BCG, Vaccine on Wheels which have introduced 6 mobile Vaccination Clinics within West Garo Hills and East Khasi Hills districts of Meghalaya.
In the context of India’s ongoing COVID-19 vaccination campaign, world’s largest vaccination campaign ever, the recent launch of the six mobile units in the state is a major milestone in bringing the marginalised and underserved communities to the forefront of immunisation against COVID-19.
The launching programme was also attended by Extra Assistant Commissioner, WGH, Dolrich BG Momin, Chairman, Tura Municipal Board, JD Sangma, District Medical & Health Officer, WGH, Tura, Dr Marwin R Sangma, District Maternal Child Health Officer, Tura, Dr Ivonne M Sangma among others.
