Arsenal reach deal for Matt Turner transfer from Revs
FOXBOROUGH, Feb 12: Arsenal has reached an agreement for American goalkeeper Matt Turner to transfer to the London club this summer from the New England Revolution, subject to a successful physical. New England said Friday the 27-year-old is expected to join Arsenal in late June, allowing him to remain with the MLS team for half the league season and the CONCACAF Champions League. Turner has 16 international appearances and has shared the starting role in World Cup qualifying with Zack Steffen, the backup to Ederson at Manchester City. (AP)
Hockey India name 65 players for junior men’s natl camp
Bengaluru, Feb 12: Hockey India on Saturday named 65 players for the upcoming junior women’s national camp which will be held from February 14 to 25 at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre here. The players have been selected on the basis of performance at the last FIH junior men’s world cup in Bhubaneswar and other Hockey India sanctioned domestic events last year. The camp will be held with an aim to select 33 core probable list of players for the upcoming tournaments in 2022 for the India junior men’s hockey team. (PTI)
Saketh, Ramkumar clinch B’luru Open doubles crown
Bengaluru, Feb 12: India’s Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan won the doubles title of the Bengaluru Open ATP Challenger after dominating their French rivals Hugo Grenier and Alexandre Muller in the final here on Saturday. Banking on the support of the local crowd, the Indian pair won 6-3 6-2 at the KSLTA Stadium. This was Saketh’s ninth doubles title at Challengers while Ramkumar registered his third victory in as many weeks. (PTI)
Diksha Dagar climbs to 21st, Amandeep slips to 57th
Nairobi, Feb 12: Battling tough conditions, India’s Diksha Dagar turned in an even par 72 to rise to tied 21st at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open here. In contrast, fellow Indian Amandeep Drall had a very rough day with seven-over 79 that saw her drop sharply to T-57. Diksha played well in the conditions which stayed difficult at the Vipingo Range, picking up four birdies. Diksha had four birdies on second, 11th, 14th and 18th, while she dropped shots on first and 16th and a double bogey on par-4 fifth. (PTI)
Bhullar slips to tied 59 at Ras Al Khaimah Classic
Ras Al Khaimah, Feb 12: Indian golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar carded a disappointing 74 in the third round to slip to tied 59th at the Ras Al Khaimah Classic here. Bhullar, who began the week with rounds of 70-67, dropped four bogeys, three of them between 11th and 14th, and just two birdies to be 5-under after the third day. It was not the best of days on the course for Bhullar, who went into the water on the third and later to the rough and native and missed a few fairways. Meanwhile, Ryan Fox doubled his lead from three to six as he added 7-under 65 to go with his rounds of 63-69. He is now 19-under and leads a group of four players. (PTI)
Hannah Green holds on to 3rd-round lead at Vic Open
Barwon Heads, Feb 12: Former U.S. Women’s PGA champion Hannah Green shot a 4-under 68 and increased her lead to five strokes after three rounds of the Vic Open on Saturday. Green, who won the Women’s PGA tournament on the LPGA Tour in 2019 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, had a 12-under par total of 205 at the 13th Beach Golf Links. Karis Davidson (68) and Whitney Hillier (75) were tied for second. The Vic Open features a men’s and women’s tournament in mixed groups. In the men’s event, John Lyras maintained his tournament-long lead with a 70 and a three-round total of 16-under 200. (AP)
Anirban Lahiri misses cut at Phoenix Open
Scottsdale, Feb 12: Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri missed the cut after carding four-over 75 in the second round of the USD 8.2 million Waste Management Phoenix Open here. Lahiri (70-75) found himself on the wrong side of the cut line for the first time in three starts as signs of early season rust continued to show. He had just two birdies and dropped six bogeys and exited early as the cut fell at 2-under. (PTI)
