Nine shops gutted

NONGSTOIN, Feb 13: At least nine shops were gutted when a fire broke out near St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Mairang, in West Khasi Hills, on Sunday evening.
After inquiry, Mairang Police said that around nine shops including general stores, photocopy shop, furniture and automobile workshops were destroyed in the fire, while a car was completely damaged in the incident.
It is suspected that the fire was caught in the photocopying shop. However, cause of the fire was not ascertained at the time of the filing of this report.
The estimated loss in the incident has also not been ascertained.
Earlier, the Mairang and Sohiong fire and emergency service stations had rushed to the scene and took control of the situation.
