ASHA frontliners feted in Mairang

SHILLONG, Feb 15: COVID frontliners — ASHA Facilitators and ASHAs — of Mairang were, on Tuesday, felicitated at a programme in Madan Mot Tirot, Mairang Mission, Mairang, by Assembly Speaker and local MLA Metbah Lyngdoh, as a mark of recognition of their contribution in the ongoing fight against the pandemic.
Acknowledging the yeoman’s service rendered by frontline workers including ASHAs since the onset of the pandemic till date, Metbah Lyngdoh stated that ASHAs are the pillars of the healthcare sector at the grassroots level with them being actively involved in sensitising citizens in regard to the benefits of various programmes and activities of the Health department including immunisation and COVID-19 vaccination, in particular.
Altogether, 10 ASHA Facilitators and 134 ASHAs were facilitated on the day.
Also present at the programme included Water Resources Minister and Mawthadraishan MLA, Brolding Nongsiej, Eastern West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, W Nongsiej, Eastern West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Maxwell B Syiem, Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw, Paiem PM Syiemlieh, traditional heads, health workers, and others.
Tablet PCs for students
On the other hand, tablet PCs under the Chief Minister’s Digital Learning Aid (MTAB) Scheme for the year 2021-2022 were also distributed by the Speaker and other dignitaries to students of 10 educational institutes in Eastern West Khasi Hills.
Addressing the gathering, Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh called upon the students to keep up with the times by leveraging on technology while reasoning that it provides them with tools to further amplify their day-to-day learning process, while also encouraging the students to reap the benefits of technology to its optimum level while also avoiding the bad aspects of it.
As many as 887 students received tablet PCs under the MTAB Scheme.
