HANM wants speedy work on WKH road

NONGSTOIN, Feb 16: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement, West Khasi Hills District Unit, on Tuesday demanded the contractor in-charge to speed up the construction of an intermediate lane from Sohpian to Nongstoin.
The 7-Km road from Sohpian to Nongstoin is one of the major roads for the people of Nongstoin as it connects NH-44E to Nongstoin town.
The tender of this 7-km stretch road was sanctioned in 2020, yet the contractor is yet to start the main work which includes the widening and blacktopping as per the guidelines.
As per the inspection carried out by the HANM members led by its president, Wilis Sohshang, it was discerned that only five labourers were engaged in construction of guard walls and no machineries were available in the area.
The HANM members have contacted the contractor implemented the work and urged him to speed up the construction by engaging more labourers as well as machineries before the rainy season.
The contractor has assured that he will start the work at the earliest.
Wilis Sohshang told pressmen here that the HANM has assured to follow up the matter.
