State police tackling drug menace aggressively: HM

SHILLONG, Feb 16: Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that the Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) of the Meghalaya Police is trying their best to curb the drug menace in the state.
Rymbui told reporters here that the state police are also aggressively tackling the menace of drugs like their counterpart in Assam. “In fact, the whole country is making efforts to totally eradicate this problem,” he said.
The ANTF had arrested many people and also seized drug consignments from time to time, the home minister said.
He added that the police had also registered cases under various provisions of the NDPS Act against people who were arrested. “I would like to appreciate the efforts of the various agencies who are involved in the fight against drug menace,” Rymbui said.
He also commended different Dorbar Shnong for their effort in dealing with this problem, which has affected several youths. “I am confident that we will be able to curtail or wipe out the problem of drug abuse among our youth,” he added.
It may be noted that many Dorbar Shnong are actively involved in tackling this issue. Moreover, they even make announcements to warn the drug peddlers.
