SHILLONG, Feb 23: Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong dismissed the possibility of separate Khasi-Jaintia and Garo states, to be carved out of Meghalaya, asserting that it would not be possible since the Centre has to look at all angles before creating a new state.
Recalling that former political stalwarts like PA Sangma, HS Lyngdoh and Clifford R Marak had raised the issue of separate Khasi-Jaintia and Garo state, Tynsong said that the current political leaders also have the same desire for separate states.
“But this is not possible since the Centre will have to look at all angles before declaring a new state. If a demand for creation of a separate state to be carved out of a large state like Uttar Pradesh is not being entertained then we should understand where our demand stands,” the NPP national vice president said.
“We cannot divide the state on behalf of two communities since we have only one Meghalaya,” he added.
