Tura, Ri-Bhoi emerge winners

SHILLONG, Feb 23: Tura District Cricket Association and Ri-Bhoi won their respective matches in the Inter District U-19 Women’s Cricket Tournament today.
Tura romped to victory by 161 runs over East Garo Hills in Zone 2, while Ri-Bhoi were put under immense pressure by West Khasi Hills but squeezed through by two wickets in Group A of Zone 1.
In the first match, Pillika R Marak hit 11 fours in her innings of 79 off 81 balls after Tura decided to bat first on winning the toss in Williamnagar, East Garo Hills. She was ably supported by Awesa G Momin (35) as Tura posted a total of 229/4 in their allotted 35 overs. Cheanchi Kambesa A Sangma (2/17) and Wanchira N Sangma (2/29) were the two wicket-takers.
Cheanchi scored 29 at the top of the order for EGH in the chase but no other batter reached double figures and her team were all out for 68. Grimchi Ch Sangma (4/27) returned the best figures, while Awesa (3/16), player-of-the-match Pillika (2/4) and Chumasa R Marak (1/4) were also among the wickets.
The other game saw several batters get starts for WKH after they won the toss and batted first in Nongkhrah, Ri-Bhoi. However, none of them could push on, with Sistilin Ryntathiang top-scoring with 14, as the team were dismissed for exactly 100 in 19.5 overs. Player-of-the-match Angelica Maring (5/27) took the first five-wicket haul of the tournament, while Ankita Sharma (2/26), Daphika Mynsong (1/22) and Dolina Marten (1/24) also found success with the ball.
WKH also had a bowler who took five wickets – Abiezer Kharsyiem (5/17). Ryntathiang claimed 2/26 but Sharma’s skill saw her bring Ri-Bhoi victory by two wickets after compiling 42 not out from just 43 deliveries.
