TURA, Feb 24: The protests seeking the removal of Rakesh A Sangma as Chief Executive Member of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) intensified on Thursday with more areas witnessing agitations by pressure groups.
In South West Garo Hills, residents of Ampati, led by the NGOs and supported by senior citizens, waved black flags while shouting “Go Back” to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s convoy as it passed their area.
The CM was on his way to Rerapara to lay the foundation stone for the Rerapara C&RD Block and inaugurate a SHG mela in the district.
Meanwhile in Rajabala, effigies of the CM as well as that of Rakesh and other supporting MDCs were torched by pressure groups. The latest round of agitations on Thursday coincided with the third day of picketing of the GHADC offices this week by pressure groups who are adamant on Rakesh’s ouster as CEM.
