SHILLONG, Feb 24: The Division Bench of the High Court of Meghalaya on Thursday issued a suo motu rule of contempt against Executive Engineer of Public Works Department (PWD), Sunirmal Hajong, for non-compliance with the directions of the High Court in its order dated December 6 last year.
The court, in the December 6 order, had directed that the “relevant Executive Engineer, PWD, who had affirmed affidavits in the present proceedings will invite the petitioner, appearing in person, to visit the relevant stretch of the road from Medhipara to Garobadha in course of the first fortnight of January, 2022, so that the present condition of the relevant stretch of the road can be appreciated and photographs and reports in such regard filed in the Court”.
In the earlier hearing on December 6, the High Court of Meghalaya had observed that there is a serious dispute between the petitioner and the state as to whether any attempt has been made to improve the condition of the road, particularly from Medhipara to Garobadha in Garo Hills region.
The matter has been listed for hearing again on March 4.
