Ri Bhoi police recover huge quantity of explosives, arrest 3

Nongpoh, Feb 25: Ri Bhoi police in Meghalaya have recovered a huge quantity of explosives from a vehicle on Thursday night and arrested three persons in this connection.

The Ri Bhoi Superintendent of Police, Giri Prasad informed that acting on a tip-off that a few persons were travelling from Khliehriat side in a motor vehicle laden with suspected explosive materials, Ri Bhoi police along with Assam Rifles dispatched a surveillance team while and joint check post was set up at Byrnihat by team comprising police personnel from Byrnihat outpost and Assam Rifles personnel to intercept the vehicle along with the suspected person(s).

Finally, at 11:30 pm, one vehicle bearing registration number AS01BE3800 was intercepted and during the search, nine cartoon of Neo Gel (Gelatin Sticks) of approximate weight of 209.93 kg, 50 numbers of Alluminium Instantaneous Electric Detonators and 2000 Indira Special Ordinary Detonators were recovered from the said vehicle without any supporting documents which were seized accordingly.

Three persons have been arrested and a criminal case vide Nongpoh PS Case No. 33(02)22 U/S 5(A) of Explosives Substances Act is being taken up.
