Village groups in SWGH get boost

AMPATI, Feb 24: With an aim to cater to the needs of the local community, the state government on Thursday provided financial assistance to a total of 12 village organisations under Rerapara C&RD block in South West Garo Hills.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma handed over amounts worth Rs 1.30 crore and Rs 50 lakh through Meghalaya Rural Bank loan to the groups in a programme where he also laid the foundation stone for the Rerapara C&RD Block and inaugurated the SHG Mela.
Speaking about the various schemes introduced by the government for assisting the SHGs in creating livelihood for the locals, Conrad Sangma said, “Many SHGs have been formed in different blocks of the state and these SHGs have been assisted financially through Start Up Funds, Revolving Fund, Community Management Fund and through Bank Loans.”
He also highlighted the salient features and the welfare schemes of the FOCUS programme and also apprised the gathering at length of the different missions of the state like the Piggery Mission, Diary Mission, Poultry Mission, Aquaculture Mission etc.
Talking about the building project of the new block in Rerapara, Sangma informed that an amount of Rs 2.25 crore has been sanctioned for its construction and the tender for the same will be floated in March-April. as
He further urged upon the BDO and the contractor to make sure the project is completed smoothly.
The Chief Minister also informed the gathering that 40,000 SHGs with a membership strength of close to 4 lakh members have been assisted financially amounting to 220 crores throughout the State.
The event was also attended by MLA, North Tura, Thomas A Sangma, MDC, Boldamgre, Stevie Marak and others.
