SHILLONG, Feb 28: Sputnik Spartan completed a comprehensive 140-run victory over Occult CC in their Shillong Cricket Association First Division match, here on Monday. Sputnik chose to bat first after winning the toss and posted an imposing total of 236/2 in 35 overs with Player-of-the-Match Mrityunjay Bharali scoring a magnificent 140 that came off only 123 balls and along with Mrinal Das, who made 61 off 81 balls, set a record opening partnership of 226 runs. Pankaj took 1/41 for Occult. Left with a daunting task of needing to 237 runs for a win, Occult’s batting crumbled and they were dismissed for 96 in 27.1 overs to lose by 140 runs. Marken’s 23 was the top-score for Occult. Aravind Singh bowled superbly to return with figures of 5/11 in 6.1 overs.
