SHILLONG, March 1: As many as 12 students from Meghalaya, who were stranded along with several others from the state in war-torn Ukraine, have landed in India while five more had boarded a flight from Budapest to New Delhi. Seven of them have already reached the state.
Sampath Kumar, the Resident Commissioner of Meghalaya House, New Delhi, confirmed the news late Tuesday evening.
Kumar, who has been coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs along with other officers, said that out of the 12 students (eleven female and one male), seven of them are already in the state while the remaining five are staying in Meghalaya House, New Delhi and will be departing for the state soon.
Ishika Debnath was the first student to reach home safely on Sunday. However details of the eleven other students were not provided to the media.
Kumar also said that five more students of the state have boarded a flight from Budapest while some more students have crossed the Ukrainian border and landed in Hungary, Budapest, Romania and Poland.
The official said 38 students, who had reached out to the government through the helpline numbers, have been contacted so far.
