Thiruvananthapuram, March 1: National record holder M Sreeshankar marked his return to competitions by producing his third-best jump ever, a superb 8.17-metre effort, to record a dramatic victory in the men’s long jump in the inaugural AFI National Open Jumps Competition here on Tuesday.
Sreeshankar. whose best jump is 8.20 metre, had an opening leap of 8.14m appeared good enough to seal victory but Mohammad Anees Yahiya produced his personal best, 8.15m, on his last attempt to leave the Olympian with the task of passing that on his last try.
The 22-year-old bettered that by 2cm, ensuring he now has three of the four best jumps by an Indian. (IANS)
