SHILLONG, March 3: As the Kongthong-Sder road project hangs fire, Sohra MLA Gavin Miguel Mylliem has gone all in to support the people as they eagerly wait in hopes of seeing the proposed six-kilometre road connecting Kongthong with Sder village take off.
“I will not be able to give any kind of assurance. But as the local MLA, I want to assure that I will follow up (the matter) with the PWD, (and ask) if funds can be earmarked for this road project,” said the Sohra MLA on Thursday.
Reacting to accusations that he was trying to delay the aforementioned road project, Mylliem said this is a wrong perception, which was given vent as he was unhappy with Rajya Sabha member, Rakesh Sharma, adopting Kongthong village.
He added that he is more than happy to see developments happening in his constituency whether it is from the MP, MDC or any individual.
According to Mylliem, the traditional heads of the area had also met him to discuss the materialisation of Kongthong-Sder road project. There is nothing wrong with the wish of the people of these villages to be connected, he said.
The MLA said that he had tried his best to raise the matter with the PWD for preparation of estimates on the road projects in regard to connecting the villages under Sohra constituency.
Mylliem said that he had directed the PWD to prepare estimates for upgrade of the existing road and to conduct a survey for linking the various villages cut off from each other.
According to him, he had directed the PWD during the review meeting in 2020 to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) in order to maintain proper records of the estimates prepared for various road projects.
“This is important since the PWD are wasting their time for preparing estimates over and over again for the same road project. Once the estimates are prepared, we will only need to revise the rates in case the project is not sanctioned in the present fiscal year,” the Sohra MLA said.
