SHILLONG, March 5: The State BJP, on Saturday, said it is confident about excelling in 2023 and aims to bag more seats in the upcoming elections, while also staking claims to not less than eight seats in the Garo Hills region. The BJP will target dethrone parties from constituencies which are their strongholds while also looking to strengthen the party, says State BJP vice president, Bernard Marak.
“Everybody has their own leaders and every party has their own technique, whereas for BJP, we are more into anti-corruption campaigns. We do not know about other parties, but we are confident of penetrating in most of the areas where other parties already have a hold,” said Marak while replying to a query on how the BJP was faring with debutants All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Congress and the NPP all working hard to win the seats in Garo Hills region.
The BJP vice president added: “BJP is working to strengthen the party. We have our own system of organizing; we are doing our best, we are more focused in highlighting different ideologies of the party and the acceptability has gone very high in the hill areas also.”
Talking about the AITC, he said, “It is up to the people as the acceptability of the people counts when it comes to accepting a party. How they are doing we are not aware, we are more focused on strengthening our party.”
Asked what would work for the BJP this time around, he party vice president said, “BJP’s principal – zero tolerance against corruption — is our main stand and it is going to make big impact in 2023 elections.”
Stating that people do not buy the campaign stories anymore as they are practical and aware of what is happening in national and state politics, Marak further elaborated, “You cannot underestimate that money can buy votes that is why we are confident we are going to open an account, and even in Khasi Hills our leaders are working hard and we hope some more seats will be coming up from Khasi and Jaintia Hills also.”
