SHILLONG, March 5: As reigning champion of Nongkrem, Independent MLA Lambor Malngiang, stands up against the might of the ruling NPP, he has hinted that money play will be less of a factor in Nongkrem Constituency in the upcoming Assembly polls in 2023.
Reportedly, NPP MLA from Mawhati, Dasakhiat Lamare, is likely to contest for Nongkrem seat in 2023 elections.
Stating that he has no issues with the NPP, which is his MDA coalition partner, fields a candidate against him, he said, “Of course, we are part of the MDA and nobody can stop anyone from contesting from anywhere, but I just want to send a strong message that the people of Nongkrem constituency are an asset for the state and not commodities and they know exactly whom to elect.”
“This is the confidence that I have been with them for 22 long years and shortly I will be celebrating my 25 years of service rendered to the people of my constituency. I don’t have any problem,” he added.
There are reports that Dasakhiat Lamare has already started his ground work in the Constituency.
“In Nongkrem constituency, anyone who has been defeated, it is difficult to return back (to power) but my case is totally different. Even after I was defeated people brought me back to serve them and I will continue even after 2023,” he said.
On him contesting on UDP ticket, Lamare said, “There is a proposal no doubt about it and of course we would like to strengthen the regional forces. And in the future, we will have to strengthen one of the oldest regional parties in the state which is very much active and alive. And as an independent, I think it is always better to be in a party to serve better.”
