TURA, March 5: NPP MDC, Albinush Marak from Siju was on Saturday elected as the new CEM of the GHADC after he defeated AITC backed candidate, Dhormonath Sangma by a margin of five votes.
Marak secured 17 votes while the AITC backed candidate came down with 12 in the election presided by the new chairman, Sengchim.
The election of a new CEM came following massive protests against Rakesh Sangma in Garo Hills which led to his resignation recently.
It may be mentioned that on Friday, Sengchim Sangma became the new chairman of the House after he won on an overwhelming majority defeating Rinaldo K Sangma of the AITC with a margin of 18-12 votes.
