MAWKYRWAT, March 8: A forest nearby Nonglang village, 2 km from Mawkyrwat, was allegedly set on fire by group of miscreants.
According to one Kordor Kharlyngdoh, a resident of Nonglang village, the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon during which unidentified persons allegedly burnt the forest nearby. The flames, in no time, spread rapidly due to the gale, reducing a house into ashes. However, no one was injured.
Had it not been for the fire services from Mawkyrwat, the wildfire could have reached Nonglang village, wreaking havoc, Kharlyngdoh said, alleging that the miscreants burn the forest every year, especially during winters.
“I don’t know whether it is their hobby or that they just want to destroy everything on this land,” Kharlyngdoh said.
